Returning to DMR Adventures in Charlottesville after James and the Giant Peach was an exciting and daunting job. Within a small blackbox theatre, I was tasked with designing their entire season featuring back to back Disney behemoths. Working with the creative team, we devised strategies for reusing set pieces, such as the rolling flats with canvas backdrops and rolling platforms. When we got to the last show, Seussical, we could pull out all the stops. We painted the floor, constructed more elaborated pieces, and used a wider color palette. I was honored that the creative team at DMR chose me to take on this design job and help to envision and implement one of their most ambitious seasons to date. It was particularly exciting to revisit and reimagine some of my favorite Disney classics.
