James and the Giant Peach

James was my first foray into community theatre. It was my first time working with an entire group of people who didn't know me at all but had faith in my vision. We were lucky to be working on a large high school stage with a lot of dedicated and talented volunteers to take on the challenges of this set.

The two centerpieces of this set are the titular peach and the foreboding Spiker and Sponge house. In a creative breakthrough, we were able to work out a design that incorporated both pieces in one large structure that could turn around to reveal the other.

To stay true to Roald Dahl's whimsical styling, I chose to play with proportions and geometry to create a subtly off-kilter environment, conducive to the marvelous adventure unfolding on stage.
